INTRINSIC BIOMECHANICS
By assessing how you move, I can develop a plan with you to help you move with less pain or restriction, or simply to help you move more efficiently in order to better fulfill your health and/or fitness goals. This may involve a bespoke exercise plan, massage and manipulation, advice on nutrition and the application of Touch for Health therapy.

Biomechanics is the mechanics of how our bodies move. Extrinsic biomechanics looks at how a movement can be performed in the most efficient way for optimal performance while intrinsic biomechanics looks at how the body works mechanically from the inside during that movement.
My first appointment with you will involve carrying out a series of movement assessments to identify any intrinsic biomechanical 'faults' that may be inhibiting correct movement patterns. These inefficient movements may be preventing you from reaching your athletic potential, or may be the root cause to symptoms of pain.

Biomechanical faults stem from our bodies compensating for incorrect movement patterns. These movement patterns may be hereditary or structural in nature, or they may have gradually built up from inactivity or poor postural alignment, from imbalances or repetitive movements during sports training, from spending too much time in certain positions through work and lifestyle, or from movement habits formed following a previous injury.
The more we continue to move in these compensatory ways, the more stress we put the mechanics of our body through, and so the risk of pain or injury (or re-injury) increases.
By identifying and correcting any biomechanical faults specific to you as an individual and your lifestyle, I am better able to find the best treatment, specific to you, to restore safe and correct movement patterns. In allowing the body to move better, more freely, we are likely to reduce or eliminate pain, prevent injury, and better carry out our daily routines or sports performances.
